Bent Raising Videos

Raising a hammer beam.

The video below was taken at one of our raisings. The bent being raised is a hammer beam which can be difficult to raise.

Where the difficulty arises is between it laying flat on the ground and until it's about 45 degrees up. In that range, it has a tendency to "chicken wing." That is where the sides move up or down without the center doing the same. A hammer beam is strong when it's sitting correctly but when it's being raised, it becomes very vulnerable to the forces generated by that chicken wing movement. It just was never designed to handle lateral forces that way.

All that being said, through the use of several straps and certain pick points, we're able to raise the bent while minimizing the chicken wing effect. Once it's up in the air and flying into position it's back to normal.
