Forest Transformed

Into the Sawmill...

A log truck is unloaded at the log yard.

The log truck makes its delivery to the "log yard" at the sawmill. Once there, it is unloaded, measured, and a preliminary grade is given to each log. This sawmill is "Whiteman Lumber" loacted in Cataldo, Idaho.

Logs are placed in piles before being sent to the mill.

According to the order which needs filled, the appropriate logs are transferred from the "log yard" up to the mill.

The logs are rough cut for length.

The logs are placed on the infeed deck, where they are rough cut for length.

The debarker strips the bark off the logs.

The logs then run through a "debarker". This effectively separates the bark from the layer underneath. The logs need to be stripped of the bark in order to prolong the life of the saw blades used in the mill.
