Creating the Frame...

The timber is unloaded off the truck at Clydesdale Frames Co.

The timber arrives at our shop. After it is unloaded and inventoried, the timber is laid out for the mortise and tenon joinery. It usually takes about a week to lay out and cut the joinery for a timber frame.

The timber frame is being fitted together.

After the joinery work is completed, the timber frame will go through the "fitting" process. The entire timber frame is fitted. Certain benchmarks must be met before the fitting process is completed. The timber frame must be "square","on dimension","tight joints", and the bottoms of the posts must land equally on a level surface.

The timber frame is being raised.

After the shop work is completed, the next step is "raising" the timber frame onto position on the foundation and sub-floor. Many more raising pictures can be viewed on our Recent Raisings page.
