Timber Frame Porches, Pergolas, and Gazebos
Okay...honestly, we are not sure what the difference is between a Pergola and a Gazebo. Everytime we think we know the difference, some new opinion gets thrown in and then we are not sure again. Since we don't work for HGTV, or Chip and Jo, we will just collect all of these into our own category named "timber outside". Whether it is a small porch for the front door, a large covering for the back door and deck, or a stand alone structure for the pool, the hot tub, a reading nook, etc...it is all "timber outside" to us. Timber outside surely does dress up a building and pull your eye, however, it is still wood, and wood outside will rot. Obviously, there are things we can do to delay the inevitable, but like death and taxes, rot is inevitable. If you are interested in "timber outside", lets make it a point to talk through some of the necessary treatments to mitigate the rot, and keep that timber doing what it is designed to do.
